Reliability Project Overview

PSE&G is currently conducting statewide electric reliability improvements to its utility infrastructure. These enhancements will improve both electric service reliability and system redundancy to ensure safe and reliable service to our customers. Throughout the state of New Jersey, PSE&G infrastructure upgrades will reduce the demand on the existing 26kV network. The projects will install 69kV transmission circuits connecting PSE&G stations around the state.

Activity Overview

  • New 69kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), which allows for the addition of increased voltage capacity with minimal impact to the existing station footprint, will be installed at our Great Notch station.
    • Station construction is expected to commence in the 3rd Quarter of 2014.
  • New 69kV circuits will connect the Great Notch and Totowa stations
    • The route runs along an existing pole line on Notch Road to Long Hill Road to Browerton Road. It will also run along an existing pole line on Route 46.
    • The route runs underground along Notch Road and along Route 46 (eastbound side).
  • The existing utility poles will be replaced with taller, sturdier poles that combine new 69kV circuits with existing 26kV, 13kV, or 4kV circuits.
  • Vegetation Management activity such as tree trimming or tree removals may occur in order to allow for the safe installation of new equipment.
  • Pole line reconstruction/underground construction is expected to commence in the 4th Quarter of 2014.
  • The project is estimated to be completed by the 2nd Quarter of 2015.
  • PSE&G will work with the Township of Little Falls Police to keep traffic impacts to a minimum.

This route will be approximately 5.5 miles along the existing public right of ways in the towns of Little Falls, Totowa and Woodland Park.

Q4 2020

We are in the process of re-conductoring of two transmission lines, in parallel, from the PSE&G Roseland Switching Station in Roseland to the PSE&G Cedar Grove Switching Station in Cedar Grove. All of the existing transmission lattice towers will be re-used and reinforced, as needed.

July 5, 2017 through December 2017

Pole replacement and overhead construction activity will occur on:

Jean Drive, Ethel Drive, Francisco Ave, Ridge Road, Long Hill Road, and Notch Road

Construction activity will occur predominately Monday-Saturday, between 7:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m.

During construction, limited lane closures may be required to accommodate safe work and travel conditions. Safety is our primary concern. PSE&G will work with the Little Falls Police Department to minimize any traffic and parking concerns and inconvenience to the public. During construction, please refrain from going near our construction work zones.

Roseland - Cedar Grove 230kV Reconductor

PSE&G and its contractors will begin activity along the right-of-way (ROW) to help strengthen the electric system. In the coming weeks, you may see PSE&G or its contractors along the ROW installing access roads (only matting). This is to allow for access of PSE&G bucket truck to the structures.
