April 2021 Update:
PSE&G is currently conducting statewide electric reliability improvements to upgrade its utility infrastructure. These projects include work in existing stations, construction of new stations, and the replacement of aging equipment at these sites.
On or around Monday, April 12, 2021, PSE&G will begin reconfiguring the Lawnside Substation located on East Pine Street. The planned upgrades will enhance the electric transmission system’s reliability, while helping to ensure safe electrical service to residents, businesses and civic facilities in the Borough of Lawnside and neighboring communities.
Work activities include replacing aging electrical equipment and building a new two-story structure to enclose electrical equipment and controls. During construction, there will be some unavoidable noise and potential for vibrations from the site. PSE&G will monitor all activities to ensure this work remains within acceptable limits and will work to minimize adverse impacts to the area. Please note: PSE&G does not expect this project to cause any service interruptions.
Work hours will be between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, as well as some nights and weekends, as needed. The station will be in-service by December 2022, with landscaping and final restoration completed by the summer of 2023. All schedules are estimates, weather dependent and subject to change.
Because customers like you rely on electric and gas to power their daily lives, PSE&G is considered an essential service. As we continue this critical work to keep the power system safe and reliable, we are taking prudent measures and maintaining safety as our number one priority. It is essential that you and anyone using your property, including children and pets, refrain from going near our active work site. PSE&G is coordinating with the local police department to minimize any inconvenience.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in the interest of maintaining the safety of our customers, our employees, and their families, PSE&G workers and PSE&G contractors follow safety guidelines put into place by the CDC and NJ State Department of Health, as well as all directives from the Governor’s Office and county/municipal governments. This includes that our workers practice social distancing and we ask that you also maintain a safe distance from our crews. PSE&G will not need to enter your home or business as a result of this work.
Safety is our highest priority. PSE&G will work with the local police departments to minimize any traffic concerns or inconvenience to the public. It is essential that you and anyone using your property, including children and pets, refrain from going near our work zones.
