Burlington City

Reliability Project Overview

PSE&G is currently conducting statewide electric reliability improvements to its utility infrastructure. These enhancements will improve both electric service reliability and system redundancy to ensure safe and reliable service to our customers. Throughout the state of New Jersey, PSE&G infrastructure upgrades will reduce the demand on the existing 26kV network. The projects will install 69kV transmission circuits connecting PSE&G stations around the state.

Activity Overview

  • New 69kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), which allows for the addition of increased voltage capacity with minimal impact to the existing station footprint, will be installed at PSE&G's Burlington station.
    • Burlington station construction commenced in 2014.
  • New 69kV circuits will connect PSE&G's Burlington and Mt. Holly stations.
    • The route runs along an existing pole line on Uhler Ave to Route 130 to Salem Road.
  • New 69kV circuits will connect PSE&G's Burlington and Riverside stations.
    • This route will run along an existing pole line on Devlin Lane.
  • The existing utility poles will be replaced with taller, sturdier poles that combine new 69kV circuits with existing 26kV, 13kV, or 4kV circuits.
  • Vegetation Management activity such as tree trimming or tree removals may occur in order to allow for the safe installation of new equipment.
  • Pole line reconstruction is expected to commence in the 3rd Quarter of 2014.
  • The project is estimated to be completed in the 4th Quarter of 2016.
  • PSE&G will work with the Burlington City Police to keep traffic impacts to a minimum.

This route will be approximately 32 miles along the existing public right of ways in the towns of Burlington City, Burlington Township, Westampton, Mount Holly, Lumberton, Edgewater Park Township, Willingboro Township, Delran Township, Delanco Township, Riverside Township, Cinnaminson Township, and Pennsauken Township.

Metuchen-Trenton-Burlington Project

Reliability Project Overview

The Metuchen-Trenton-Burlington Project (MTB) is a $739M investment designed to strengthen the electric transmission system by replacing 138,000-volt (138kV) circuits with 230,000-volt (230kV) circuits between the PSE&G Metuchen Switching Station in Edison, NJ and the PSE&G Burlington Switching Station in Burlington, NJ.  The project replaces aging infrastructure in 17 municipalities and modifies, upgrades or reconfigures 17 electric stations.
